The Louisiana Low Incidence Disabilities Consortium (LA-LIDC), funded by the Louisiana Department of Education, uses technology to provide statewide accessibility of university coursework and professional development in the area of low incidence disabilities (Significant Disabilities, Autism, Blind/Visually Impaired, and Deaf/Hard of Hearing).  Information on course offerings and registration procedures is located on their website.

Competencies (Significant Disabilities):  The Louisiana Board of Regents, Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the Louisiana Department of Education developed the GUIDELINESFOR THE REDESIGN OF SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS (April 20, 2005 Revised) .  As noted in the publication, all Louisiana universities were required to redesign their Special Education Programs to address new state certification requirements, state/national content standards, state/national teacher standards, PRAXIS expectations, and NCATE requirements.  The competencies related to teacher preparation in the area of significant disabilities are found in Appendix J in this document.
